Note From The Editor
Greetings Discerning Readers,

About two years ago, I was educating an engineering intern on fusing PE pipe by visiting job sites, doing time studies and observing what could be done to improve job efficiency and productivity. We learned that a KEY to increased productivity and safety on PE fusion jobs was the job set-up and pipe handling, especially into the fusion machine. From this study, came the PolyHorse, a modular pipe handling system.
The PolyHorse™ Pipe Handling System consists of (3) modular racks that support the pipe entering into the fusion machine and stores other pipe to be fused off the ground. The simple set-up consists of placing the racks in the proper position for the pipe lengths being installed. The advantages of this system are:
- Reduces the risk of pipe damage and contamination by storing the pipe off the ground
- Reduces the risk of equipment damage and/or operator injury from individually loading each stick of pipe with a piece of equipment.
- Reduces job costs by eliminating one operator and one piece of equipment for loading the pipe into the fusion machine.
- Provides a more efficient fusion operation that increases productivity.
Once people in the industry and specifically contractors see this product and learn about its safety and productivity advantages, they will understand how it can save money.
In May, I gave this presentation at the AGA Conference and at the Plastics in Underground Pipes 2008 Conference. Please view this power point presentation to see the various ways you can use this product to increase your production, decrease project costs and be more profitable.

| Plastics In Underground Pipes |
Plastics are extensively used in Underground Pipes as discussed at the May 2008 AMI conference in Houston, Texas. With renewal and rehabilitation of aging systems, this is a sizeable market. Earthquakes cause devastating damage: in 1994 in the Northridge quake, there were 1500 water pipeline failures due to tectonic movement and wave passage. Camille Rubeiz of the Plastic Pipe Institute outlined the benefits of ductile materials such as PE and the use of flexible joints to minimize disruption. In the Tsunami in Thailand, many PE pipes were exposed but performed well and being flexible, conformed to the new lay of the land.
